Those Who Wander Are Not Lost

By D' Forman for Take Flight Summit

Recently at a family reunion, Karen, my 68-year-old cousin, reacquainted herself with the family member who inspired her wanderlust. She remembers watching the slide show of his Navy-sponsored travels as a child and never forgot those exotic lands he introduced to her.

Since retiring a few years ago, Karen has racked up an impressive array of exotic places visited on her own and in tour groups: cruising down the crystal-clear fjords of Norway, hiking ancient roads in Greece, watching whales breach in Alaska, basking in the ocean breezes of Hawaii and marveling at the opulence of Versailles are just a few of her recent expeditions! And there are no plans to stop!

Turns out, Karen is not unusual in her globetrotting ways. The demographic group comprised of the 45+ year-old woman is out there crisscrossing the globe in large numbers.

Travel Industry of America says the average adventure traveler is not a 28-year-old male, but a 47-year-old female who wears a size 12 dress.

Just a side note: I wonder if they’d have said it that way if the demographic was the 47 year-old male who wears a 42” waist pants?

Anyway, the point is, women aren’t at home sitting in their rocking chairs, waiting for the next episode of Big Brother. They’re out enjoying themselves, learning about other cultures, experiencing peculiar foods and trying their hand at adventures that senior women only dreamt of in previous generations.

If you’d like to network with dynamic women just like Karen who are taking the world by storm, join us at the Take Flight Summit to connect, rejuvenate, and soar!
